Following the success of a major schools project to commemorate the Battle of Jutland, the loss of HMS Hampshire and Orkney’s role in the First World War, children from across Orkney will be participating in a shared project to celebrate the life of St Magnus during 2017.
Schools are being encouraged and supported to develop projects with young people that enable them to explore the St Magnus Story and its relevance today. As well as learning about this important part of Orkney’s continued cultural heritage, schools will use the St Magnus story to advance their ongoing work in relation to Growth Mind-set and Philosophy for Children. Other schools have indicated that the project will be a platform for young people to build on perseverance, resilience and creativity skills.
A working group of teachers representing each school are meeting regularly to discuss ideas, identify opportunities for shared learning and collaboration, and establish links to the wider Magnus 900 celebrations.
